You may remember a while back I did a review on U.S. Elections Lap-pak by Home School in the Woods, if not check it out here. We are still working our way through that lap-pak, learning all about the elections process in a fun and creative way. Being an election year has made it even more valuable to our homeschool studies. Well more recently I received the opportunity to review another product by Home School in the Woods called Timeline Collection: A Collection of Historical Timeline Figures.
From the Home School in the Woods website you can purchase and download the product. There is also a CD version you can have shipped. I was able to download the content easily to my computer. Once downloaded it's fairly easy to navigate, you can open the folders and see each component individually or you can click start and it opens through your web browser using the content you downloaded. While it uses the web browser, internet is not required to utilize it (only for the initial download). With the start option it will walk you through each step. Not only the material but how tos, tips and tricks, recommended materials, etc.
The download is broken down into 2 folders; CD1 and CD2. The first one has all of the PDF's while the second one has all the images. You can print the material as needed for individual figures or events, or you can print them in groups. They can be sorted chronologically, alphabetically or by categories to easier find specific figures or events. This collection of historical timeline figures includes the following categories

- Napoleon to Now
- America's History
- Bonus Figures
Since I have a fifth grader, we started off in America's History. We chose to do a horizontal notebook style timeline. I haven't found a horizontal binder yet (the kind for checkbooks), so we just started putting it on the wall for a visual. We are currently printing with discriptions, but as there is also the option to print without discription which I may do as they get older. Every morning my boys pick a new figure out of the timeline bag and we talk about it and find its home on the timeline. After we get a binder I'll slide these into sheet protectors and put them in the binder.
One of the best parts about this is the large age range literally Kindergarten through 12th grade. It's such a great family project to start and continue to build upon year after year. With over 1200 figures and events included it will be quite the timeline!! How you set up your timeline is up to you and the options available in the download are convenient for notebook style or wall style, however you can size them even more by scaling the size on your printer to fit your needs.
