Today I'd like to tell you all about a math book called Mastering Essential Math Skills Book 2 Middle Grades/High School by Math Essentials. When I first received this book I was afraid it would be too far over Karter's head but it starts out slowly and progressively picks up skills.

Each lesson is comprised of 5 parts
This book is 8.5x11' in size, paperback and about a half inch thick. It is workbook style where you write directly in the book but does not have perferations to easily remove the pages. The pages don't have much space for working out problems but Karter used graph paper on the side to do this. It says it should be about 20 minutes a day but usually took about 40-45 minutes for Karter (10 years old).

We generally lean more towards mastery style learning and this book is clearly spiral, however my son and I both realized very quickly in that the repetitive spiral actually helped him master his skills even more. I would definitely recommend this book as a supplemental for helping hone in on skills. It would be especially useful during this extra long summer most kids are getting this year.
