We have been given the opportunity to try out a new literacy program called PRIDE Reading. To determine what level we needed we did an assesment on the PRIDE reading website. Krissy's assesment determined we would use PRIDE Yellow Book Program Kit - Level 1. You may have seen our unboxing video in January, Krissy was so excited to dive right into his PRIDE Reading Kit.
The program has a physical book for the students to work from and a digital teacher guide through their website. Prior to starting the curriculum there is a teacher training program that takes a couple hours to complete but tells you how each step of the program works and gives excellent videos of how to use it. Then you can jump right into it with your kids.
Once you start the lessons will look like this:

Each lesson has 8-10 steps, there's 3 lessons in each module and then you move onto the next module. In the PRIDE Yellow Book Level 1 there's 17 modules total. We aimed for one lesson per day, three days a week. Level 1 covers vowels and then goes into two letter and three letter blends. As you progress through the new modules the curriculum continues to incorporate the previous modules.
Throughout each lesson the student will use many different approaches at learning the concept-
The multi-sensory approach and mastery learning gives this curriculum a Montessori feel, with a spiral after effect to make sure the mastered skills stick for good!
Krissy's favorite tool was the reading tracker.
- Visually - Cards, manipulatives, on the dry erase board, in their book
- Auditory - hearing teacher and hearing themselves
- Touch - touch patterns (through tapping hand, waving arm and sliding finger), writing with pen and dry erase, using the hands-on manipulatives.

One of my favorite tools were the letter tiles, I even came up with a little hack to keep them organized and ready to go. Another idea I saw was to put magnets on the back and have them on a cookie sheet.
We have thoroughly enjoyed using the PRIDE Yellow Book Program Kit - Level 1 from PRIDE Reading Program to provide structured literacy in our homeschool, but don't just take our word for it other families from the Homeschool Review Crew used this kit or other levels too so be sure to check out their reviews by clicking on the banner.
